Evidence of Noosh’s Bionic Fang ™ has finally been captured on film. After hunting all night, he subdued this wild can of albacore and cranked open it’s protective metal alloy shell the can using the fang that was installed by NASA as a test unit.

{tiny lemon tea cakes with a sweet cream glaze, mmmmm!}
I don’t know what’s got into me lately to prompt such a baking phase. Making something sweet never goes unappreciated around here, so maybe it’s as simple as that. Whatever the root cause, I’m sure glad I ponied up to these lemony cakelettes this morning.
My friend mentioned making a meyer lemon cake and it’s just been haunting me ever since. Plus, I bought this pan the other day at the snootiest of Sur la Tables (Wilshire and Ocean, pffft!) and have been dying to use it. This is likely not the correct application for such a pan as the designs should be more defined but it still makes for an unexpectedly charming presentation.

{organic chicken is stuffed with flowery mustard greens and shallots}
Three Things I learned yesterday at the Venice farmer’s Market:
~ I must secure an official Farmer’s Market Purchase Containment System (FMPCS). A wheely cart, canvas bags, and an Easy Access Small Bill and Coin Management System (EASBCMS). Always an emarrassing amateur, this fumbling for my cash and clumsy one handed veggie consolidations has to end.
~ I must stop stalking the honeycomb and cocoa nibs. Sniffing and poking is not appropriate and plain rude. Only purchasing is allowed from this day forth; I can worry about their application later. I must have them.
~ An item is not officially yours until cash has changed hands. The Farmer’s Market Savages (FMS’s) will stop at nothing to secure the perfect radish.

{earl grey, vanilla bean, poached & candied pears, make these cute cupcakes}
I’ve been working from home the past couple of days which allows me most excellent privilege of being able to bake something in the background. I park it right here at the kitchen computer aka headquarters, vpn into work, and launch my Slingbox player for entertainment, all with one eye on the oven.

{these pictures do not do this poor little lamb justice}
I’m not sure which I know less about, cooking lamb or the process of braising anything. It’s that chilly time of year again that I covet everso and up until now, no soup or slow cooked delicacies have emerged from my kitchen. I’ve been trying to eat things lately that I don’t normally (please see exhibit A for details). Fennel and lamb both being a road less traveled for me I bravely filled up my shopping basket. And in an effort I can only describe to you now as courageous, possibly heroic, I drove home at warp speed to settle the score between this strange vegetable, the awkwardly shaped cuts of meat, and myself.
